Post Adoption Services
Any time after an adoptive placement, the adopted child, adoptive parent or both may have issues, questions or concerns about the adoption. The Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR) has established the following programs to assist adopted children and adoptive families in meeting these needs, as well as to provide support services that can help further the child’s development.
Georgia Center for Resources and Support
The resource advisors at the Georgia Center for Resources and Support can connect adoptive parents with helpful services that meet specific needs of an adopted child. Other resources include a parenting library, support groups, activities and online tools for parenting.

Adopted Teen Empowerment and Mentoring (ATEAM Program)
The ATEAM program is designed for adopted teens in 6th-12th grades to promote self-expression through group interactions with other adopted teens.
Adoption Reunion Registry
The Adoption Reunion Registry assists birth parents, adopted individuals and adoptive parents in obtaining information, conducting family searches and finding support/search groups—in addition to providing counseling and intermediary services.
Crisis Intervention
When a parenting challenge becomes a serious problem, the Crisis Intervention Team can help. The Intervention Team provides early intervention to decrease disruptions, dissolutions and to preserve the family unit.
Respite Care
If you have an adoptive child who meets DHR’s definition of Special Needs, and has been in the permanent custody of Georgia DHR, Respite Care can give you a brief reprieve from the demands of parenting.
