Childcare and Parent Services
ChildCare services are designed to provide purchased services in family day care homes, day care centers, relative home care, and in-home care. This program provides an array of social, education, health, nutrition, recreation, and transportation services. ChildCare services provide protection and guidance to children whose parents are unable to meet their needs without some assistance and to provide children with experiences essential to their health, growth, and development during the time childcare is needed. Care is provided for children up to age 13, or up to age 18 for some children with special needs. Care is also subsidized for some children in protective service or court-ordered supervision cases.
DFCS purchases child care and related social services primarily for TANF or low-income families to enable parents to work, enter job training, and move toward self-support for themselves and their families. In order to be eligible for childcare, TANF recipients must participate in required work activities. Childcare is also subsidized for some in protective service or court-ordered supervision cases. When funding is available, assistance may also be provided to other families who live in the county, have limited income, and need childcare in order to work and/or participate in state-approved education/training. Most parents/guardians pay some of the childcare costs on a sliding scale based on the family’s income and size. CAPS pays the remainder to the provider, up to a maximum.
Childcare centers and family daycare providers are needed in Wheeler Co. Providers who are available for non-traditional working hours are also needed. For more information, contact Wheeler Co.
